Can foreigners apply for Vietnam work permit without university/ bachelor degrees?

According to the government’s new Decree (11/2016/QĐ-CP), it stipulates to issue work permit to foreigners as follows:

  • To position of managers: Manager who manages the entrepreneur or be a leadership or deputy head of a company, organization that signs transactions documents of that company. In application, it is required for applicant to have the certificate of career at the position of manager without university degree.
  • To position of expert: it is required for applicant to have a expertise certificate of career at least 3 years at the similar position.
  • To position of technical worker: it is required for applicant to have at least 1 training year in either specialized technical or other specializations and at least 3 experience years at the similar position.

What are requirements to apply for work permit in Vietnam?

According to the government’s new Decree (11/2016/QĐ-CP), documents of work permit application will depend on the applicant’s position in Vietnam. According to the new Decree, the job position will divide into 3 groups:

  • Manager group: it is required for applicant to have the certificate of career at the position of manager.
  • Expert group: it is required for applicant to have university degree and confirm that he/she got 3 experience years at the similar position.
  • Technical worker group: it is required for applicant to be trained in either specialized technical or other specializations at least 1 year and get at least 3 experience years at the similar position.

To comply with the new Decree, applicants should have not only university degree but also the certificate of career.

Can foreigners apply for work permit without being in Vietnam?

Yes. The employers can apply for work permit in Vietnam for their foreign employees while they are outside Vietnam. So, the foreigners don’t need to come to Vietnam, the employer still can apply work permit for them before their work is started.
